We need mothers to change the world

Each of us mothers is so much more than a mom. We are strong, ambitious and skilled individuals and our identity consists of much more than just our role as a mom. Mothers are in charge of business, save lives in operating rooms, create amazing art, write code, and make the world a better place as activists.

Every mom has a unique story and identity that is not limited by being a mom

I am a mom and… campaign celebrates the many different roles that women carry besides being mothers.

Each of us has a unique and rich identity that deserves to be seen.

During the campaign in August 2023, we shared different and inspiring stories in our channels about what it is like to be a mother and to be skilled and passionate about something completely different at the same time. Lots of amazing moms shared their stories with us!

By sharing the stories, experiences and acknowledgements that broaden the traditional picture of a mother, we strengthened the womens’ voices. At the same time, we wanted to bust old fashioned myths and stereotypes of motherhood. In our opinion, there is no one ideal motherhood.

These moms joined the campaign and shared their personal stories about being moms and something else, encouraging other women to be themselves and celebrate all aspects of their life:

I am a mom and I am a pole dancer. I have found bodily autonomy through pole dance. After having my child and breastfeeding for a year, I did not feel like the body belonged to me.

Pole dance gave me an avenue to accept my body for what it can do. The support in the pole community and how it challenges my body and my mind is why I keep coming back to pole!

Silvia Padron

I have been a Healthcare manager for the last 10 years and previously I worked as a humanitarian worker abroad.

A manager sets goals and strategies for her team. Communication and team building become the key tools needed to move forward and implement any project.

As a migrant in Finland finding community felt impossible until I became a mother. Already through pregnancy I met other women that became friends. Nowadays, I participate in daycare and school activities to meet new people.

Hande Holopainen

I have always been fascinated about how life has started on Earth and how humans have adapted to the environmental challenges. This is why I chose to study human biology and genetics and I was hoping that I could understand and unravel the meaning of life. My studies did not help me to find answers but instead I came up with even more questions.

The moment I truly understood the meaning of life was when I held my daughter in my hands for the first time. The meaning of life was clear as day to me; “to create life”. Of course, motherhood is much more than creating, it is the whole ordeal of raising a good and empathetic human being.

Becoming a mother has changed my point of view about happiness, gratitude and success and it motivated me to be a better version of myself. In fact, becoming a mother was a turning point in my career, because I felt encouraged to seek for more challenging positions and I finally reached my goal.

Feiya Long

As a mother and a founder, I envision a world where every child is multilingual, multicultural, multitalented, and they know how to build a safe and healthy relationship with the digital world.

They can find meaningful friendships worldwide simply by being themselves. If this is the world you would like your children to experience, welcome to join me!
